Doncaster’s Lakeside Village has celebrated two decades of business in style with a host of fun family activities.
Free circus workshops, a treasure hunt, balloon modelling, and lots of free food were part of the birthday celebrations this month.
The site, on White Rose Way, was launched as The Yorkshire Outlet on August 15 1996, before rebranding as Lakeside Village in 2003.
Today, the 147,000 sq ft site is home to more than 45 retail outlet stores.
Centre manager Cheryl Sadler said: “Our birthday celebrations have been amazing. We’ve celebrated with our customers, our stores and held a birthday lunch for key partners including Doncaster Rovers and Doncaster Sheffield Airport and representatives from the charities we support.
“We’ve built up an incredibly loyal customer base over the past two decades and it has been great to celebrate with these people.”
Some retailers, including the M&S Outlet, Clarks Outlet and Black & Decker, have all been at the site since the beginning.
John Hamilton is regional manager for Black and Decker’s UK factory stores - which has been onsite since the centre launched. John himself has worked at the site since it opened in 1996. He said: “The site has really developed into a destination over the years. Families, couples, people on their own, they all come down to Lakeside Village – not just to shop, but to enjoy the events that take place here at the centre, or to meet up for a coffee with friends or colleagues.
“I’m proud to have worked here for the two decades the site has been open as a shopping centre. The future’s bright for Lakeside Village and I’m looking forward to continuing to be a part of it.”
