IT was one big celebration as a women’s centre was given a cash boost in the shape of over £2,000.

The money came from Sainsbury’s in the Frenchgate Centre following a fundraising drive by its staff.

Supermarket workers held events such as bag-packing to raise the money.

The money is now going towards Platform 51, formerly known as the Young Women’s Centre, in the town centre’s Cleveland Street.

Those funds will help to keep the centre’s array of activities -such as helping women with disabilities, young offenders and offering educational programmes - running.

Sainsbury’s Doncaster had chosen to sponsor the women’s centre.

Carmelle Harold, a childcare services programme manager at the centre, said: “We’re so pleased with what they have done for us and their kind donation. We can’t thank Sainsbury’s enough.”
