AN inspirational schoolboy is putting his best foot forward to raise money for a cancer unit after his mum died from the disease.

Big-hearted Thomas Wilson, 11, wants to hold a sponsored walk in memory of his mum Diane who bravely battled cancer before losing her fight at the age of 47.

Caring Teenage Cancer Trust supporter Thomas wants to walk 26 miles from his hometown of Thorne to Doncaster Town Field and back to raise money for Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital where his mum was treated.

The Thorne Trinity Academy’s dad Thomas snr has also pledged £2,000 towards the charity event planned for July.

Thomas and his sister Diane, 18, are no strangers to fundraising after organising a football day last year, undertaking a skydive and sponsored run which has brought in about £10,000 altogether - a feat which got Thomas has special recognition to his efforts.

Diane said: “Mum was so proud of the fundraising that we did and was so proud of Thomas, he never stops fundraising and she never missed an event.

“It’s not just a walk what he is doing, we’ve been through a lot as a family and it’s our way of saying thanks to Weston Park for how they treated mum.”

The family want to thank everyone for their support at Diane’s funeral which saw over 1,000 people attend Thorne Parish Church.

She died on April 19.
