A FORMER Parkgate company’s online careers advice is proving a boon, as youth unemployment hits a record high.

Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey, with Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Rachel Reeves MP, visited U-Explore in Rotherham to find out more about their careers help and training to schools, councils and businesses.

Over a million young people were out of work in the three months to November, while in Yorkshire the number of 18 to 24 year-olds claiming job seekers allowance more than doubled last year.

In Rotherham the numbers almost doubled and there was a 38 per cent increase in Barnsley.

John Healey said: “U-Explore are making careers advice exciting and inspiring as well as informative.

“This is more important than it’s ever been because it’s tougher than it’s ever been for young people to make that step into the world of work from school or college”.

Rachel Reeves said: “It’s great that U-Explore are helping young people get on the careers’ ladder. With unemployment at a 17-year high, they need support.”

James Frith, Managing Director of U-Explore, said: “It is always good to be asked to show the work we are doing to help improve young people’s chance of finding employment.”
