The Toy Retailers Association unveiled its list of the top 12 festive Dream Toys at Meadowhall.

Youngsters from Tinsley Meadows Primary School were among the first to test them out, with the Frozen Sing-A-Long Elsa doll proving a hit.

Nicol Scopva, aged six, said: “I loved Elsa because she was very good at singing. I have watched Frozen lots of times.” Seven-year-old, Aamina Abbas, loved playing with the Star Wars Bladebuilder Jedi Master Lightsaber.

“My favourite was the Star Wars Lightsaber. I like it because it flashes and has lots of lights which is fun,” she said.

The list is decided by a panel of leading toy retailers in the UK including Argos, Boots, Selfridges, Smyths Toys, The Entertainer, TK Maxx and Toys R US.

Stephen Town, secretary of the Toy Retailers Association, said films and television shows had influenced this year’s list. He said: “We have a lot that are related to movies and television series so we have Star Wars that is back in a big way. We have Millennium Falcon toys and Lego that are very popular.

“There are other Star Wars toys in the list too. There is an updated Elsa that is like a karaoke Elsa in a way.

“The child can actually sing along with Elsa and when they stop singing the doll cleverly works out where the child has got to and carries on singing, so that is really cool.
