The Olympics with a difference in North Lincolnshire

JUST when you thought the Olympics was over – on Thursday October 11 at Bottesford Sports Hall, six North Lincolnshire care homes will take part in the Care Home Olympics.

Each care home has entered a team of three residents and three employees to compete against fellow care homes in a range of activities including target throw, new age kurling, skittles, bowling and archery.

It will be a great opportunity for the older people to become more active and meet new people.

The event starts at 1pm with a light chair based exercise warm up and then the action begins with teams taking part in each event. The competition will finish at around 3.45pm with the successful team crowned champions.

The teams are:

Orchard Court Care Home, Brigg

Baytree Court, Scunthorpe

Riverside Mews, Brigg

Gresham Lodge, Scunthorpe

Rathside Care Homes, Scawby

Sycamore Lodge, Scunthorpe

Residents taking part are aged 60 plus.

Councillor Rob Waltham, cabinet member for People at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Participants won’t hold back and will give it their all. Their competitive streak will come to the fore in this all important competition to see who is the fittest.

“Working with our local care homes, we have developed the event to increase physical activity in residential and care home settings and to also promote staff to become more physically active.

“The Olympics had us all gripped, and we want to continue with the Olympic fever by encouraging older people to get more active and have fun at the same time.”
