Dearne jobseekers are in for an early Christmas present after Royal Mail announced they are delivering 265 temporary jobs for the festive season.

The majority of the seasonal roles will be available at the extended Sheffield Mail Centre to help handle its hefty festive mail bag.

And the remaining positions in Rotherham will be for Royal Mail’s express parcels business Parcelforce Worldwide, based near Magna Centre.

Jon Adams, plant manager at Sheffield Mail Centre, said: “The roles are part of Royal Mail’s substantial financial investment in additional resources at Christmas to help ensure we provide the best service to our customers and get every card and parcel to its destination on time.

“The jobs come at a crucial time of the year for many people and offer great flexibility in shifts, from early working hours to night shifts.”

He added the extra workforce has been drafted in as Royal Mail is seeing an increase in deliveries year on year.

“An increase in people doing their Christmas shopping online means we are getting busier every year.”

Dearne MP John Healey said: “I hope Royal Mail will give local people first call on these jobs and support them as much as they can to move from these temporary posts into permanent work afterwards.”

Positions are available across all shifts from early November to Christmas Eve and will support postmen and women who sort and deliver the mail all year round. No previous mail industry experience is necessary as training is provided. For further information about the roles available, visit www.royalmailgroup.com/xmasjobs site.
