A store which sells quirky gifts not usually found on shop shelves is celebrating 20 years in business.

Located on Wellgate in Rotherham town centre, Mesmerize has proven popular with shoppers searching for alternative gifts and jewellery ever since it opened on May 8 1995.

Shop owner Lynda Crampton, aged 41, celebrated the milestone anniversary at a recent bash in the town attended by 300 people, which included live music from band Papa Legbas.

Lynda said the shop has come a long way since she first started trading on a stall on the old outdoor Rotherham market.

She added: “I received help from Business Link and the Prince’s Youth Trust to open a bricks and mortar shop and I am still here today 20 years on thanks to the incredible continued support from Rotherham shoppers.

“I am very proud to be trading in Rotherham town centre. I have made many new friends over the years and I would really like to thank all my great and loyal customers for their support over the past two decades.”

Shoppers can also get in on the anniversary fun as they are being offered the chance to win a range of top prizes.

From today to May 31, customers will receive a raffle ticket to be in with the chance of winning a crow bell jar. There are also a range of exclusive ‘offers of the week’ and money off selected items.

Over the years the range of items sold has expanded to include gothic and alternative clothing as well as a large range of aromatherapy oils, incense, home fragrances as well as artist collections and figures. The shop was voted Rotherham town centre’s ‘Independent Retailer of the Year’ last year after a public vote.
