South Yorkshire sausage kings Underwood Meat Company picked up a top industry award for their tasty bangers.

The Rotherham company beat more than 230 other meaty entries to win the BPEX Foodservice Sausage of the Year competition.

The winning Pork and Chorizo Sausage was one of just 15 selected by leading industry judges to battle it out in the competition’s grand final.

The final was held at London’s prestigious Butchers’ Hall.

The winning sausage, which took first place in the Speciality Pork Sausage category, scored highly on taste, texture and appearance.

It also went on to earn Underwood Meat Company the hotly contested Overall Champion title.

Emmanuel Crusiaux, group international accounts manager, said: “To win first prize in the Speciality Pork Sausage category is a fantastic achievement.

“To go on and scoop the Overall Champion title is tremendous!”

Competition organiser Tony Goodger, BPEX’s foodservice trade manager, said: “We really have been delighted by the quality and range of sausages on offer this year.”

Moss Valley Fine Meats in Norton also scooped second place in the Speciality Pork Sausage category with its tasty Breakfast Sausage.
