Motorists were hoping for an easier journey to work this morning as Doncaster’s North Bridge re-opened up to all traffic for the first time in more than ten years.

The bridge is being used by northbound private cars for the first time since the nearby St George’s Bridge was opened but this morning few cars made use of the bridge as signs still stated taxis and buses only.

The bridge, which is part of North Bridge Road and connects the town centre with the north of Doncaster, has been limited to buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians since St George’s Bridge opened in 2002.

The reopening, that is ahead of schedule, is expected to solve a long-standing traffic nightmare and could boost trade for town businesses.
