Boosting membership and encouraging businesses to work more closely together are key aims for new Doncaster Chamber president Kelvin Fitton.
Kelvin, a partner at Smith Craven Chartered Accountants, was appointed as chamber figurehead at the organisation’s annual general meeting in December, taking over from former president Stacey Austin, managing director of Doncaster-based Boxes and Packaging.
He hopes to increase the chamber’s membership numbers during his two-year tenure and wants to see more collaboration within the business community.
A spokesperson for Doncaster Chamber said: “Kelvin hopes to see an increase in the number of members using chamber services and attending events.
“He wants to build upon the ethos that Doncaster businesses should try and work more closely together and hopes the chamber can be fundamental in assisting Doncaster Council and other larger firms in the borough, procure from other Doncaster businesses, irrespective of size.”
Kelvin said: “It is an honour to be made president of the chamber in my home town and in its 75th year.
“We have some exciting times to look forward to in 2016; the opening of the FARRRS link road to the airport, the building commencement of the HS2 Rail College and hosting the Stage 2 finishing point of the Tour de Yorkshire - all things that we should be proud of.”
