A SURVEY of “A Thousand Business Voices” has been launched at Barnsley by MP Michael Dugher, to highlight the plight of small businesses.
MP for Barnsley East Mr Dugher launched the survey to all small and medium-sized businesses, with Toby Perkins MP, the Shadow Minister for Small Businesses.
Together they visited a number of small firms that included Mr Lo’s Pharmacy and Carlton Main Brickworks Ltd at Grimethorpe, and Crown Garage Ltd at Elsecar.
The survey was launched as part of the run up to the budget, in a bid to find out more about the experience of local businesses in accessing finance amid concern over the failure of the banks to lend on reasonable terms to SMEs.
Mr Dugher said: “More and more businesses are going under across South Yorkshire and access to finance is a major issue. The banks are clearly not doing enough.”
