Business leaders have joined forces in Mexborough to launch an ambitious initiative that aims to ‘put the town back on the map’.

More than a dozen trade leaders came together at the town’s Old Market Hall pub at the end of April to launch the Mexborough Business Forum.

The group has set a number of initial targets aimed at ‘raising positivity in the town, raising aspirations and offering opportunities for local young people’.

The MBF is set to devise a robust town centre regeneration plan aimed at boosting footfall and encouraging new businesses into the town.

Members are also planning a series of community and fundraising events over the next several months.

One MBF member, Mick Lee, managing director of Constant Security Services Ltd, said: “As one of Mexborough’s largest employers since we launched over 30 years ago, I feel I have a duty to help raise the profile of our town and support smaller and newly established businesses to grow and prosper.”

Matt Fearn, duty manager of The Old Market Hall, added: “I am delighted to be part of the new Mexborough Business Forum and it was a pleasure to host the launch event.

“JD Wetherspoons are a committed community-based business which supports local collaboration and partnership.”

Richard Wood, headteacher of Mexborough Academy, said it was important for the business community to help inspire the next generation.

He added: “I am delighted to have been invited to join Mexborough Business Forum on behalf of Mexborough Academy.

“I am looking forward to working with local businesses to offer more opportunities for our local young people with an emphasis on raising aspirations.

“It is extremely encouraging that Mexborough businesses have come forward to offer work experience, career guidance and potentially new apprenticeships which is great news for our young people.”
