Mechanic George revs up for top honour

BIG-hearted George Bentham has motored off with a top prize for being a wheely good mechanic.

George, who services the cars of his friends and family for free in his own time is jubilant after being named Seat Apprentice of the Year.

The 19-year-old was ‘totally shocked’ when he heard he had won, beating off competition from scores of others.

George, a service technician at Stoneacre Seat in Doncaster, said: “The training I received is of an unbelievable quality, probably the best of its type in the country.

“I am delighted to have been named apprentice of the year and realise how lucky I am to have the job I do.”

“What can be better than to work on cars for a living when it’s something I love doing in my free time?”

George, from Mexborough, joined Seat straight from school four years ago. He receives a framed certificate, a voucher for £500 worth of tools, and a tool box.

His training involved regular trips to Seat’s training college in Milton Keynes where tuition focused on advanced diagnostics and technical training.

George said: “I’ve had a keen interest in cars from a very early age following in the footsteps of my dad, Dean, who has always been interested in cars. I remember watching motor racing on television. Then in my early teens I would carry out small services on my parents’ cars to help them save money.

“Now I service my friends and family’s cars for free. I am more than happy to help out.”
