ISLE author, Rebecca Kershaw of Epworth, is celebrating the publication of her first novel, Bleed Black, and is already notching up considerable sales both locally and further afield.

Rebecca, who is a matrimonial solicitor, won the Writing Magazine Competition to have her novel published.

“I almost didn’t enter the competiton,” she said, “because I assumed I had no chance of winning. But my husband, Andy, said I definitely wouldn’t win if I didn’t enter, so I gave it a go. When I received the phone call to say I had won I didn’t stop smiling for days.”

It isn’t Rebecca’s first success – a graduate of Sheffield Hallam University’s MA Creative Writing programme she has sold short stories to People’s Friend Magazine and was featured in both the Fathom Prize Anthologies. But having a novel published has always been her ambition.

“I wrote Bleed Black as part of my MA and always hoped it would eventually be published. When I first saw the book, with my name on the cover it made all the hard work and endless re-writing worthwhile.”

Bleed Black is a fast paced coming of age story which was inspired by a holiday in Northumberland, and is available on Amazon and other bookselling websites and orders have already been received from the United States and Germany.
