East Coast, which employs hundreds of people in Doncaster, has been named as one of Britain’s top bosses for a fourth successive year.
The train operator has achieved certification as one of Britain’s Top Employers for 2015 following an independent assessment of the company’s HR practices and employee benefits.
And it was placed second out of 73 other organisations throughout the country by the Top Employers Institute at a ceremony in London on Thursday.
East Coast was evaluated by the Institute over a wide range of criteria which included its strategy for developing talent, workforce planning, learning and development, and Company culture.
East Coast Managing Director Karen Boswell said: “I am very proud of this recognition as one of the UK’s top employers for the fourth time in a row.
“We have continually raised the bar in terms of our employee engagement. Winning this important accolade demonstrates our commitment to engaging with our people, and encouraging their natural passion to deliver excellent service to our customers.
“This is a fitting prize for everyone in our Company, as we draw this chapter of East Coast to a close.
“I’m proud of the fact that we’ve restored the pride to this ‘jewel in the crown’ of Britain’s railways, leaving a legacy of having created the best possible platform for this franchise to continue its success and development into the future under new ownership.”
The East Coast rail franchise will transfer to a private sector operator today (Sunday, March 1) after it has run services on the East Coast Main Line for five years and three months.
Director of UK Operations for the Top Employers Institute Eleanor Nickerson said: “This is the fourth time East Coast has been certified and the first time it has been placed in the top ten. It stands out for strong all round HR practices and for its passionate approach to HR growth.
“Optimal employee conditions ensure that people can develop themselves personally and professionally. Our comprehensive research concluded that East Coast Mainline provides an outstanding employment environment, and offers a wide range of creative initiatives, from secondary benefits and working conditions, to performance-management programmes that are well thought out, and truly aligned with the culture of their company.”
