Workers at a factory are thought to have been evacuated.

One Austerfield resident said: “I heard a loud noise about 6am, which woke me up. That was followed by a lot of commotion - there were sirens and alarms, and people running around and shouting.

“The firemen seemed to have special breathing equipment, and the police sealed the road through the village. I could see that the factory workers had all been evacuated too. It was very dramatic, like a scene from an apocalyptic disaster movie or something. At first I feared we might have to be evacuated.

“Nothing like this usually happens in Austerfield.”

Eight fire crews are currently at a large industrial fire on High Street at Austerfield in Doncaster.

Crews from Doncaster, Maltby, Adwick, Edlington and a fire engine from Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service were at the scene
