A man has been killed by a train near Askern, Doncaster, this morning.
British Transport Police are currently at the Moss Road crossing investigating the fatality, which was reported at 7.45am.
The East Coast main line has been closed, affecting East Coast, Grand Central and CrossCountry services between Doncaster and York.
Passengers travelling between Doncaster and Sheffield have also been transferred to other services.
A BTP spokesman spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the railway line near Moss Road foot crossing in Askern, Doncaster, today, Monday, 11 August, after receiving a report that a man had been struck by a train.
“Officers from BTP and colleagues from South Yorkshire Police attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 7.45am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended the scene but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers will now work to establish the identity of the man and inform his family. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
