Brave PC puts life on the line

A COURAGEOUS police officer who plucked a man from a crashed car which was about to burst into flames has been presented with a national award for his life-saving bravery.
PC Sam Robinson, from Old Denaby, came across a horror smash by the side of the road and leapt into action by smashing the front window and dragging the driver to safety.
The 28-year-old hero officer was on the way to another incident with a colleague when they spotted a car which had collided with a garden wall.
He said: “I didn’t really think about it at the time. I arrived on the scene and I realised there was someone inside the car.
“I could see that something had to be done and I got him out. The man was very grateful and thanked us for saving his life.”
Dad-of-two PC Robinson was thrilled when he learned that he would receive a special certificate of commendation by the Royal Humane Society.
He will be officially presented with the honour, alongside his colleague PC Alan Twentyman at a special ceremony at a later date.
The crash happened on March 18 this year in Stockport, where PC Robinson works for Greater Manchester Police.
Royal Humane Society secretary Dick Wilkinson said: “Put simply these two officers were the right people in the right place at the right time. They managed to drag this driver, from his vehicle which could have exploded into flames at any moment.
“They richly deserve the awards they are to receive. It takes a lot of courage to approach a vehicle which has crashed, has fuel leaking from it and smells of burning. But they didn’t hesitate. They put their lives on the line to save this man.”
“If they had not arrived at the scene virtually at the time the crash took place the vehicle could well have burst into flame and the driver could have been killed. He was very lucky.”
The driver of the car was later charged with drink driving.
