TWO South Yorkshire lasses have turned their love of the late Amy Winehouse into a tribute track set to raise money for charity.
Laura Whiteley, 21, and best friend Emily Humphreys, 20, performed Amy’s hit version of Valerie for a Britain’s Got Talent style contest staged by Barnsley-based off licence chain Rhythm and Booze.
The judges were so impressed with the girls’ sound and look they decided to give them their big break.
Laura and Emily recorded the track which is now available on CD in Rhythm and Booze outlets, with all proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Laura, a trainee accountant in Ardsley, Barnsley, said they had already decided to perform the song before Amy’s death. “When me and Emily do karaoke together that’s what we always sing,” she said. “We didn’t want to disrespect her, but people said we should do it as a tribute.”
