A DONCASTER market town has been turned into a winter wonderland as part of moves to attract more shoppers.

Bawtry looks as festive as a Christmas card with prettily-lit trees, festive decorations and shops trimmed up for the season.

Doncaster Rovers Belles players were in town to perform the switch-on of the lights last week which got the count-down to Christmas off to a great start.

And shoppers who want to experience a bit of Christmas spirit as they are picking out a few presents can take advantage of extended opening hours which sees many shops open until 8pm on Thursdays between now and the big day.

The festive event follows on from a spectacular summer when the historic market town and 12th century port was bedecked with flowers which drew compliments from visitors.

The recently formed Bawtry Retail Association is active in promoting its businesses.
