A CAMPAIGN to promote Bawtry as the place to be in the borough is under starter’s orders this weekend.

The Visit Bawtry race meeting looks set to take Town Moor by storm on Saturday as the town’s businesses join forces to sponsor six of the day’s races.

It’s a chance to toast the town’s success and future both at the races and then back in Bawtry for complimentary drinks from town businesses.

Racing sponsorship stalwarts, The Crown Hotel and Robinsons of Bawtry, are joined by new sponsors the Ziniz Tuscan Restaurant, Fine and Country Estate Agents, China Rose Restaurant, Innovation Financial Services and Coco Ice Cellar Cocktail Bar.

Ziniz proprietor Alex Calzini said: “We are thrilled to be part of the inaugural Visit Bawtry Race Meeting and are looking forward to playing our part in promoting Bawtry to a race going crowd.”

Fellow restaurateur Estelle Johnston, of China Rose, added: “This is a very proud moment for all businesses in Bawtry to hold such an evening at our wonderful racecourse.

“We are confident the race meeting will be a huge success and we look forward to welcoming racegoers back to Bawtry after the racing.”

The event has been organised by Doncaster Racecourse in partnership with Bawtry Retail Association (BRA), which has seen business owners in the town form a partnership to promote Bawtry as the premier place in Doncaster to live, work, shop, socialise and enjoy the finer things in life.

The first races gets underway at 5.05pm with the final horses romping over the finish line just after 8.15pm.

And, while the town’s retailers and their guests will have been mingling on the champagne lawn all evening, the party doesn’t stop there.

All racegoers are invited back to Bawtry, where upon presentation of a race ticket you can enjoy a complimentary glass of Pimms courtesy of Coco Ice Bar followed by a glass of champagne and oysters supplied by Bawtry’s latest business, ZUVU – a fresh fish and seafood bar.

Ross Jarvie, of Fine and Country Estate Agents, said: “We extend a warm welcome to all to join us, for what promises, to be a very enjoyable evening for everyone.”

Tickets for the evening can be purchased from Doncaster Racecourse by visiting www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk or by calling 01302 304200.
