A Barnsley FC fan who woke up on the toilet seven hours after a match ended could have been drugged, police have said.
Officers are now investigating the incident after fire fighters had to let the fan out of Oakwell stadium on Saturday, October 24, after Barnsley’s 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood Town.
The 16-year-old fan was rescued at around 11pm and was later taken to hospital.
Police said tests were carried out and doctors found traces of a substance which could have been used to drug the teenager.
Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the ground that could be related to the incident to come forward.
PC Ben Taylor, from Barnsley District Police, said: “This incident did attract a significant amount of media attention at the time and there may now be a more sinister side behind what took place.
“If you were at the match and you saw anything which you think could be related to this incident, please contact us, as your information could be vital.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 1205 from Saturday, October 24, 2015.
