ONE Direction star Niall Horan will be the first to leave the band, believes Brian McFadden - the pop star who sensationally quit Westlife, writes Graham Walker.

You can hear the full interview with the station’s Home Time presenter Ian Brannan on Real Radio Yorkshire, 106–108 fm and www.realradio.co.uk/yorkshire, on Friday, February 15, 2013, at 4pm.

Dublin born McFadden, who made global headlines when he left Westlife, believes fellow Irish star Horan, aged 19, could ‘follow in his footsteps’.

He made the comment while promoting his first UK album in almost eight years, called The Irish Connection.

Featuring Ronan Keating and Sinead O’Connor, it’s a collection of 10 songs and will be released through BMF Records/ EMI on March 4.

He has been supporting Ronan Keating on his UK tour - which included a recent appearance at Sheffield City Hall.

The star chatted about leaving Westlife and his thoughts on band members from current pop acts, who might do the same.

He was asked: “Do you look at other bands and see one of the band members that might go off on their own?”

Turning to One Direction, he didn’t believe it would be South Yorkshire’s own Louis Tomlinson, from Doncaster, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne or Harry Styles.

He said: “I reckon from One Direction, probably Niall. He comes across as the guy who’ll probably follow in my steps and Robbie’s steps and be the first to leave. All the ones that leave first always have that same kind of twinkle in their eye; they’re a bit bold, a bit naughty!

“I reckon Niall’s the naughty one. Maybe because he’s Irish I suppose and the rest of the boys are from England but he does remind me of the boys from Westlife quite a bit, I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s his accent. He has a twinkle in his eye though and I’ve seen that twinkle before in the mirror! (Laughs) He’s gonna cause trouble.”
