Generous Dearne residents are being urged to donate presents to those less fortunate this Christmas.
People are asked to place presents underneath the Christmas tree in Mexborough town centre on Saturday when the illuminations are switched on.
They will be donated to Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids appeal, which aims to ensure children in poor circumstances across the region receive at least one Christmas present each year.
Mexborough councillor Sue Phillips said: “We will have people stood by the tree all day to make sure the presents people put under the tree are safe and don’t go missing.
“It is a fantastic charity cause. No child should go without a present at Christmas time.”
The public can also drop off their donated presents either today or tomorrow at Mexborough Community Partnership’s base at Mexborough Resource Centre on Dolcliffe Road.
The illuminations will be switched on by a mystery guest at 6pm.
The ceremony will follow a day of family fun, which kicks off at 10am.
Visitors can expect to see fairground rides, numerous stalls selling a range of goods, carol singers, festive music and a Santa’s grotto.
There will also be the traditional procession, led by Father Christmas, from the fish market down to the town centre for the switch on.
