A TEENAGE girl was killed and a 45–year–old woman driver seriously injured when their car was involved in a head-on smash with a lorry last week.
Police are appealing for witnesses after 18-year-old Mellissa Blayden, died folowing the crash on Moor Lane, Brierley on Wednesday, February 16.
A black Renault Clio, driven by the 45-year-old woman was on Moor Lane, Brierley, travelling from Great Houghton towards Hemsworth and a white lorry was moving in the opposite direction at 8.10am.
Police say the driver of the Clio appeared to lose control, crossed the carriageway into the path of the lorry and collided head on. The Clio then left the road to the nearside and both occupants were trapped in the car. Mellissa, of Park Lane, Great Houghton, suffered multiple fatal injuries.
The driver of the Clio, also from Barnsley, sustained life threatening injuries and is being treated at Barnsley District General Hospital.
The 63-year-old lorry driver, from Bradford, was not thought to have been hurt.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or either vehicle prior to the crash to call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020 quoting incident number 198 of the 16 February.
