THE sensational new Range Rover Evoque is set to become Land Rover’s biggest star and it will soon receive added glamour when Victoria Beckham introduces a special edition model that she has designed writes Bryan Longworth.
The former Spice girl who has become a top fashion designer recently visited the Range Rover headquarters in Warwickshire with husband David to discuss the special edition Evoque with company bosses.
Range Rover will be launching the special edition Evoque or should it be Evick in the near future but I understand Victoria will be very closely involved with its design.
After driving the Evoque on the Press launch in Scotland it became quite clear that the baby Range Rover is going to be a big hit for the company because not only does it have really cool styling but it also has the traditional Range Rover off-road qualities.
And as John Edwards, Land Rover’s Global Brand Director, told me Evoque will appeal to customers who have not considered the brand before which will mean a lot of extra orders.
Evoque is available with either two or four wheel drive in either coupe two door style or as a five door with prices starting at £27,955 rising to £39,995.
The new Range Rover, which is the smallest, lightest and most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced,is available with a new range of state of the art diesel and petrol engines although most models are diesels.
Evoque, which is closely related to Freelander, has manual and automatic transmissions and all the electronic equipment associated with Range Rovers especially Land Rover Terrain Response that make them so good for off-road driving in difficult conditions.
There is a top quality and very comfortable interior with very user friendly controls and instruments although the driver’s seating position is lower than I expected.
I drove 4x4 models with petrol and diesel engines both on road and on a demanding off-road track over steep hills that included mud and water and the Evoque was just as sure footed as other vehicles in the Range Rover stable.
There were no traction problems and for on-road driving where the Evoque will spend most of its time the car provided quality handling and comfort levels that will add to its appeal.
The low sweeping styling towards the back reduces rear head room but there is a roomy boot and overall Evoque has massive street appeal and the car is certain to be a huge success.
My Verdict: Another winner for Range Rover and footballers wives will love it!
