Two keen anglers hope to net themselves a big business success from their new Wath workshops.

Greg Nyles, 25, of West Melton and partner Ryan Heaton, 25, of Wentworth, gave up secure jobs to run their own business, and won backing from UK Steel Enterprise.

Their company, RG Baits, specialises in rolling carp baits for anglers across the country, and sells direct after producing in bulk.

A £500 grant from the ‘Kickstart Fund’ allowed the pair to buy equipment to start trading, and for a year-long advertising campaign.

Greg, who was a banking advisor for seven years prior to branching out said: “Our focus is on making sure anglers get precisely what they want in their baits. We are happy to make up small orders to suit a customer and that’s what sets us apart.”

Anglers usually want a 10kg bag from RG Baits for a weekend’s fishing, but recently the men took an order for 70kg from an angler going to France and fishing for carp weighing over 50lbs.

Greg added: “Carp fishing is big business with a small number of bait providers. We take raw materials from three of the biggest names in the market and make boilies, a rolled round bait ball. We can even add any combination of flavours, It’s personal service that anglers like.”
