Amy has her art nailed

Amy Allen, of Edenthorpe, has won a prize for her nail art photographs.

ARTISTIC Amy Allen really nailed it when she scooped top prize in a beauty contest.

Nail artist Amy, 21, had her finger on the pulse when she secured a nationwide win in a competition to find the country’s best nail art designers.

The talented therapist proved she was the ‘reel’ deal when her cinema themed creations impressed judges at the Professional Beauty 2013 event at London’s ExCel exhibition centre, earning her a £200 cheque, trophy and certificate.

She said: “It’s amazing to win but I was quite nervous when I found out. It is brilliant to have my work recognised in this way.”

Amy, who works alongside her mum Corinne at The Nail Salon in Edenthorpe signed up for the competition in which nail art designers from across the country submitted designs based around a black and white movie and cinema theme.

Amy, who has worked at the Cedric Road salon for four and a half years, spent two and a half hours painstakingly designing the film reel nails and her mum then captured the creations on camera to send off to judges.

She said: “I’ve always loved nail art. It is something I’ve always been interested in.

As well as the dazzling talons, Amy also took centre stage – by modelling the nails for the pictures which showed forces sweethearts in an embrace.

She added: “The photo was based on old wartime movies. Getting the detail on the nails was quite difficult and you have to have a lot of concentration, patience and a steady hand.”

The designs were enough to win top spot – the first nail art prize Amy has secured.

She said: “We are doing designs every day in the salon. They are becoming more and more popular with people wanting something a bit different when it comes to their nails.

“I really enjoy doing it and hopefully I can continue and maybe win more prizes in the future.”
