Ambulance cadet’s royal appointment

A YOUNG ambulance cadet got the royal seal of approval when she was recently invited to meet Princess Anne.

Rachel Ford, 15, from Barnburgh, was invited to attend Buckingham Palace after completing the Grand Prior Award – the highest award a St John Ambulance Cadet can achieve.

Rachel represented the charity at a palace reception on March 30 and she got to meet the host - the Princess Royal.

The young cadet said: “Visiting Buckingham Palace and meeting the Princess was an experience that I will never forget.

“Being a St John Ambulance Cadet has provided me with first aid knowledge, that allows me to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved – and I’ve also had the opportunity to learn other valuable life skills.”

She was one of 93 young people invited to the Palace to represent St John Ambulance from across the country.

Only two Grand Prior Award winners from each county were asked to attend.

Shane Jefferson, Director of Youth for St John Ambulance South and West Yorkshire, said: “Rachel has worked hard and demonstrated dedication throughout her time at St John Ambulance.

“We feel the Palace reception is a perfect way to reward them, and recognise their achievements.”
