A COLOURFUL array of floats paraded through Tickhill for one of the highlights of the town’s calendar.

Families turned out to applaud the hard graft and imagination of those who had decorated floats as they led off from Wong Lane.

Ten-year-old Lily-Anne Rowbotham was crowned queen for the day as she headed up the parade of floats along with her princesses Katie Russum, seven, Holly Barham, eight, and six-year-old Riley Warne.

Among those who had put together impressive creations for the floats were Tickhill Cubs, St Mary’s Primary School, 32nd Doncaster Rainbows and Tickhill Brownies.

The winners of the best-dressed float competition was Estfeld Primary School, with its Mr Men theme, at the parade on Saturday afternoon.

Gala day activities planned on Tickhill Recreation Ground had to be cancelled as the field was waterlogged. The gala is due to be rescheduled in September at a date to be fixed.
