THERE was plenty of clowning around at a special spring fair held to help a church restoration project.

Residents went along to St Laurence’s Church in Adwick-le-Street to enjoy a host of activities including performances from children’s entertainers, cake stalls and a tombola.

The bishop of Doncaster, Peter Burrows, was also on hand to officially open the action-packed event in Village Street at the weekend.

Money raised from the spring fair will go towards the St Laurence Church’s refurbishment scheme.

Volunteers and members of the church have been working around the clock to raise funds for several much-needed improvements to the church including plans for a toilet and kitchen.

The team set a target to raise £10,000 back in 2010 and have already surpassed that thanks to generous folk coming together to hold a variety of fundraisers.
