IT was back to work - but with a difference, for Rotherham Mayoress Lisa Wright when she accompanied her husband, Coun Shaun Wright, on a visit to hospital.
The Rawmarsh couple’s visit to Rotherham District General Hospital was to view the work taking place on wards, and wish staff and patients all the best for Christmas and New Year.
Mrs Wright began her nursing career at the hospital, and is the deputy ward manager of Day Surgery, when not fulfilling her mayoral obligations.
The Mayor enjoyed time on the children’s ward, and said he was “incredibly impressed”by the professionalism of both nurses and doctors.
Since taking up office in May, said Coun Wright, it has been “the most amazing seven months of our lives”.
The couple have attended over 400 engagements, opened businesses, launched charities and projects, lit bonfires and turned on Christmas lights.
And it is no job for a couch potato!
The Mayor has sky dived, climbed Rotherham’s Minster spire and clambered up Kepples Column near Wentworth - all in the name of duty!
“We are making new friends and fantastic memories and the best thing is we have another five months to continue the most wonderful journey of our lives”, added Coun Wright.
