Alfie’s appeal to help Nepalese

He may be pint-sized but seven-year old Alfie Young has a great big heart.

The youngster, who lives in Hatfield, became upset at the tragic circumstances of people in Nepal, following the recent earthquakes.

Mum Rachael said: “Alfie asked if he could do something to raise money after watching the news and getting upset by it.

“He came up with the idea of putting a map and a candle in the school hall and asking people to bring in donations. Once the pot is full he is sending it off.”

Rachael and Alfie’s aunt felt the thoughtful gesture was worth applauding in a seven-year old. Rachael said: “It’s nice to have some good news and kindness to talk about.” It’s not the first time Alfie has gone out of his way to help others. The selfless youngster regularly donates his clothes and toys to charity shops and has taken some toys to the children’s hospital.

Alfie donated his own pocket money to the Nepal appeal, and was supported by his teacher in his collection at Travis St Lawrence Primary School in Hatfield. Although Alfie has a kind heart he has a tough side. He does martial arts and has joined a junior boxing club.
