BOSSES at Doncaster’s Robin Hood Airport are gearing up for the great Easter getaway with more than 25,000 passengers expected to take to the skies.

With the latest icy snap gripping the borough, even more folk could be jetting off to seek out the summer sun that brought out shorts and flip flops across the borough just a week ago.

The big rush at the Finningley airport could see up to a 30 per cent increase in normal passenger numbers throughout the Easter holiday period.

Airport spokesman Robin Tudor said: “This is the first busy period of the year for the airport and we all look forward to welcoming passengers ahead of their flights.

“We are known for how well we look after our passengers and preparations for the additional throughput have been under way for some time to make sure that passengers continue to have a great experience here, even when we are busier than usual.”

Airport chiefs are also getting ready for their annual Cruise Show on May 5, with expert advice on offer for both experienced and first-time cruisers.

A chocolate fountain, champagne and cup cakes will be dished out as well as special discounts for those who book flights and cruises on the day, at the event in the Vulcan Viewing Lounge from 9.30am to 3pm.

Charlotte Buckley, airport aviation sales executive, said: “Our fly-cruise programme is very popular and is growing year on year. We are expecting hundreds to attend, which will showcase all the varied holiday options available.”
