They’re flying the flag for Scotland in Conisbrough! A group of creative ladies have got the needle – and they’re going to use it to create part of a tapestry to help celebrate the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Banuckburn in 1314, a significant Scottish victory in the ancient battle with the old enemy.
The craft group at the Ivanhoe centre will be joining forces with 49 other groups from all over the world to create the tapestry, which is being organised by the Scottish Diaspora group, which has affiliates as far away as Malawi, Jamaica and Argentina.
The Ivanhoe entre’s Lindsey Young told the SYT: “We’ll making one of 50 50 centimetre square portions of the tapestry. I think four of the squares will be from Doncaster, and we certainly hope to be part of it.
“It’s a really exciting project to be involved in.”
The craft group meets every Wednesday between 1.30 and 3.30pm and is open to all.
Lindsey said: “There’s always a decent sized group. They do all sorts of crafts, but the group at the moment is particularly keen on needlework and knitting, but they’ll give anything a go.”
There is a £2 charge for each session – for more information call 01709 860764.
