CREATIVE school kids in Grimethorpe are being encouraged to write about life in their home village as part of a poetry competition.
Pupils at Ladywood and Milefield Primary Schools have been challenged to write poems around the theme of "What Grimethorpe means to me."

The competition is being run by the village's Acorn Centre Library as part of the National Year of Reading.

All entries will be submitted to the centre by Friday (June 20) and will be judged in year groups, with one prize winner from each year group in each school.

The 12 winners will be announced on Friday (July 4) and their poems will be displayed in the centre.

Each winner will receive book tokens and a tour of Barnsley's Oakwell football ground.
