POLICE have launched an investigation following the death of a ten-day-old baby girl from Rawmarsh.
Police were called to a house in the Monkwood Road area at about 5.30am on Monday following reports that tiny Leah Lynn McKievor had stopped breathing.

She was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital where she was pronounced dead about 50 minutes later.

A post mortem examination was inconclusive and further tests are to be carried out. This may take several weeks.

In the meantime the death is being treated by police as suspicious as a matter of routine, but detectives believe the incident was probably a tragic accident.

A 25-year-old woman arrested in connection with the baby's death has now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

An inquest was opened and adjourned yesterday.
