Police 'open minded' about High Street death
POLICE investigating the death of a woman in Mexborough say they are "keeping an open mind" about the case.
The body of 55-year-old Marie Ann Booth was found at the foot of a high wall in the rear yard of a shop in High Street, Mexborough on Thursday night (May 8).
Ms Booth's daughter, Joanne Woodburn, said today: "Marie Ann Booth was a fantastic woman who will be sadly missed by her family and everyone who knew her."
A 62-year-old man who was arrested and questioned on suspicion of murder has been released without charge, and it is unclear whether the case is still being treated as a murder investigation.
A post mortem examination revealed that Ms Booth, who lived on High Street, died of head injuries, but detectives say they are still keeping an open mind about the circumstances of her death.
The Ambulance Service was called shortly before 11pm and paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The Bull's Head pub and Paula's Sandwich Bar were cordoned off by police throughout Friday while forensic examinations took place. Both businesses reopened on Monday, and floral tributes were left outside the Bull's Head over the weekend.
Part of High Street was closed to vehicles from its junction with Bank Street and Garden Street was also closed on Friday.
