RESIDENTS are being invited to join a heritage trail around Wath to celebrate Rotherham Walking Festival.
Local historian Alex Fleming will be the tour guide for the one mile walk in and around the town centre.

People who want to attend are asked to meet at Wath Library in Montgomery Square today (Thursday) at 10.30am.

The walk, organised by the lo
cal history group and various community groups, aims to highlight the historic beauty of Wath whilst encouraging people to walk more locally.

Entitled 'Walking the Past – Improving Your Health' the walk will take in a mile figure-of-eight route through Wath town centre lasting approximately an hour.

A leaflet will be available on the day which gives details of the places to be visited and their history.

Tony Armstrong, Chief Executive of Living Streets - which has helped organise the event, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for everyone involved in organising this trail. Not only will it highlight the rich history and significance that Wath has to offer, but we hope that it will encourage residents to walk more locally, giving them the opportunity to socialise, enjoy their local streets and to see what Wath town has to offer in terms of shops and services.

"There are so many benefits to walking, not just to make the roads less congested and polluted, but to develop more of a community as you get to know your local area better."

Rotherham Walking Festival continues to July 5.
