POLICE recovered crack cocaine and a firearm during a raid on a suspected drugs den in Mexborough.
Drugs squad officers busted a house on Maple Road and confiscated six rocks of the Class A drug, along with a CS gas incapacity spray.

The cocaine was found on a 32-year-old man who was arrested at the scene and the weapon had been hidden in the l
iving room.

They also recovered a stash of £850, which were believed to have been the proceeds of crime.

Police said metal sheeting had been put behind the front door to reinforce it, but they managed to break through.

The operation, on Thursday (June 11), was co-ordinated by the Mexborough Safer Neighbourhood Team and the District Proactive Drugs Unit.

Mexborough Sergeant Andy Clarke said: "We act upon information from the community and we continue to seek their assistance to target the people who are causing a nuisance.

"Drug taking is a menace in society which also leads to other crimes. We will continue to work with the public and our partner agencies to tackle this problem.

"To those who are dealing in drugs – we will find you."

Crime can be reported to the Mexborough SNT by leaving a message on 01302 385178, alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
