A LARGE family suffered a near miss when a faulty electrical box sparked a blaze at their Goldthorpe home in the early hours of the morning.
The fire started at around 12.50am last Thursday after the electrical box began sparking and crews from Brampton, Mexborough and Adwick stations were called to the scene.

One family member in his 20s was in the living room at the time and noticed the blaze before managing to evacuate all of the eight other people in the house at the time.

A smoke alarm was fitted at the property but the battery had been taken out meaning that the alarm would not have been raised as quickly had the man not been awake at the time.

The living room was damaged by the blaze and the crews remained at the scene for around 90 minutes.
