DENABY dynamo Dominic Hurley's near-death experience in an horrific moped crash was an ill-wind that has blown a lot of good
for thousands of other stricken victims, ever since.
For the big-hearted disabled athlete has just taken his one-man fundraising campaign past the £38,000 mark – in just two and a half years!
Dominic, 36, climbed aboard a static bike for a 12-hour marathon ride at Doncaster Tesco last week – raising £936 in a single day or the store's charities.
As two other bikes were occupied by ever-changing riders, Denaby-born Dominic stayed in the saddle throughout.
And the former St Albans and Pope Pius pupil told the Times: "It was a fantastic day. I am delighted with the money it brought in, which has taken my total raised to £38,000 in just over two years.
He added: "It was very warm, but they kept me going with cool drinks".
When in his 20s, Dominic suffered severe head injuries when he came off a moped in Cypru.
During his rehabilitation he found discovered a love of cycling and has now become part of the British Paralympic squad.
He added: "I had a severe brain injury after falling off the moped in Cyprus some 15 years ago.
"I spent three months in a coma and I wasn't expected to live.
"I did – and now I want to do as much as I can in life for different charities to help people, such as Headway – the brain injury association which helped me and my family.
"It is also a way of keeping fit and helping me in my attempt to get to the London 2012 Paralympics."
