CHILDREN from Wombwell Park Street Primary were given a lesson on the dangers of playing on construction sites when they visited a new housing development.
The nine and 10-year-olds visited the Haverhill development site in Wombwell to learn how houses are built and the different jobs in the construction industry.

Peter Summers, from Merryweathers' Land and New Homes, talked to the children about the
hazards they could face on construction sites, such as large vehicles, heavy machinery and hazardous building materials.
The class also toured a recently-completed unoccupied property where they were asked to point out potential dangers.

Mr Summers said: "This is a great time to remind the children of the dangers of construction sites and hopefully make them think twice about where they play over Easter holidays.

"Even though the Haverhill site has no major construction hazards at present, it is still a live site with workmen and removal vans coming and going so even though it may look safe to children there are dangers that they may not be aware of."

At the end of the talk, the children took part in a quiz on construction site safety with the winners Olivia Sanderson, Courtney Stuart, Aidan Platts and Rhys Payne receiving Easter egg prizes.
