CUSTOMERS are losing out when it comes to receiving their money's worth in some of Barnsley's pubs, according to Trading Standards officers.
A recent survey carried out by Barnsley Council's regulatory services offficers found a large percentage of pubs selling less than a full pint.
Posing as customers, officers visited 21 premises throughout the borough and ordered a pint of beer or lager. Ten the pubs sold a short measure with the worst deficiency being 11.26 percent.
Several licensees and premises received warnings and formal cautions from Regulatory Services. The maximum penalty for supplying short measure beer is £5,000.
Working in partnership with Barnsley Chamber of Commerce, Regulatory Services has offered advice and training to staff in licensed premises to ensure customers receive a full pint.
Cabinet member for environmental services Coun Roy Miller said: "When consumers in Barnsley order beer they are entitled to a full pint. It is important that we work with the licensed trade and the Chamber of Commerce to ensure consumers get what they pay for."
