HUNDREDS of people are expected to attend the 80th anniversary service of the Bentley Colliery disaster tomorrow.

A service is taking place at Arksey Cemetery to commemorate the death of 45 men and boys who were killed in an underground gas explosion.

Relatives are expected to be among those in attendance. Labour leader and Doncaster North MP is due to make a speech at the service.

It starts at midday with hymns, followed by the names of those who were killed and those who helped with the rescue mission being read out and a two minute silence.

The event also commemorates the death of seven miners in a paddy train crash at Bentley Colliery on November 21, 1978.
