Danensian choir to celebrate 50th anniversary at Doncaster Minster

Present and former members of the Danensian Choir will be getting together at 7pm on September 16, 2012 to celebrate a half century of choral tradition for this famous local choir.

The choir specialises in the performance of English cathedral music and, although based in Doncaster, sings in cathedrals around the country and at other major events. It regularly draws singers from various parts of the United Kingdom.

The Danensian Choir was founded in 1962 by the Educationalist and Broadcaster, William “Pip” Appleby. Since it was founded, the choir has performed under eight different musical directors in most of the cathedrals in England as well as in Westminster Abbey, at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor and at both Christchurch and St Patrick’s Cathedrals in Dublin.

The Concert will feature works by Fauré (Requiem), Parry (I was Glad), Elgar, Brahms, Howells, Stanford, Wood and others.

Tickets (including refreshments) will cost £12; concessions: £10; Students: £8 and under 12s will have free admission. All proceeds from the concert will be in aid of the Doncaster Minster Restoration Fund.

The Choir Chairman, Paul West said: “It is particularly fitting that we are able to perform in Doncaster Minster on this special occasion”.
