North Bridge Skate Park is opening up for free on Saturday to give kids a chance to ramp up the fun.

Area 51 has hired out the facility for a taster session from 5pm to 9pm.

Pictured here is Bailey Killgallon, five, of Grampion Way, Thorne, who has been whizzing around ramps on his scooter since getting the skating bug in the summer.

His mum, Jade Lee, 30, said: “He has been coming here regularly since the summer holidays. He really liked it and started wanting to come more and more. He probably comes now about twice a week.

“He has come on a lot. Having lessons has been brilliant for him too and he can do a few different tricks now.”

The skate park, run by Jamie and Susan Phillips, has recently had a couple of new additions including a ‘resi’ ramp, a ramp with a foam surface underneath to soften the blow if you fall over.

Susan said: “Winter is better for us because they can’t ride outside on the dark nights. It’s a safe area for them to come, we have someone with first aid training on-site all the time and we have a small cafe area.”
