IF YOUR fancies run to reggae dance pieces with bizarre titles, look no further for an evening out than the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, next month.
There you will be able to take in Dubwise Lik – which explores the environment, culture and identity crises of a Caribbean family, newly arrived in England.
This offering comes from the founder member of Phoenix Dance Theatre, David Hamilton, and his company Regeyeshun Dance.
Set in the early 70s, it tells the story of one-time criminal Donovan Ottley, who transforms his life to become a universal peacemaker.
Tracing the history of his family from the island of St Kitts to industrial Leeds, the show recounts Ottley's encounters with injustice and prejudice, and his search for solutions.
The cast includes former Phoenix dancers Gee Goodison and Pauline Mayers, alongside a line-up of youth and community dance groups.
The music is composed by singer, songwriter, composer and producer Christella Litras.
She has toured the UK with Beverley Knight and Japan with Jamiroqui and has worked with Ella Andall, one of Trinidad's most renowned World Music Artists – including singing for Nelson Mandela in 2005 as part of his World tour.
Director is Joe Williams, narrative consultant for Regeyshun Dance Theatre.
Performances take place at 7.30pm on July 17 and 18, and tickets are priced at 9 – with a 2 discount for groups of five or more.
