She said: “I was working at a call centre for a while I was studying but had always dreamt of a career in hairdressing. I always had a strong passion for hair styling from being a very young girl.

“I would style a lot of my friends’ hair, for many and varied occasions while learning about the latest trends from the world of hair styling fashion.

“I never ever thought that I would have the opportunity to do hair styling professionally, that was before hearing about the many and varied courses at Dearne Valley College.”

Lauren was a very keen student and she progressed very quickly through her qualifications, while maintaining at the same time part-time work at the call centre, and she also enjoyed the hands-on aspects that her courses had to offer.

The keen student added: “I have thrived on this hair and beauty course, learning in a real commercial salon at Dearne Valley College.

“I was putting my skills to use on real clients throughout the course and also managed to take additional courses to add to my CV such as gel nails, ear candling and hair extension application.

“My tutors have been amazing throughout my time at the college and so supportive, providing us with all the knowledge we need to pass and progress, and they have even supported us after finishing the course with interviews and trade tests.”

A spokeswoman at the college said Lauren now had a fantastic future ahead of her and her full-time work within Dearne Valley College’s salon, had enhanced her prospects for her future.

Lauren further added: “Since completing my Level 3 Diploma, I have secured work at the college salon Aspirations as a stylist and I absolutely love it. I now get to work with the people that taught me and I am looking forward to building up my experience. My ultimate dream once I have built up a portfolio of experience with the college salon, would be to work for Steiner, who employ health and beauty professionals to work on cruise ships around the world. My work with Aspirations salon will help with that dream.”
